3 Ways To Look Great While Wearing A Hat

Posted on

Hats are one of the trickiest fashion accessories to pull off. Sure, they always look great on models and mannequins, but on real women, they sometimes look silly or sloppy – or at best, they'll leave you with hat hair. However, you can look great while wearing a hat, if you choose the right hat for you and know how to wear it with confidence. If you've never been a hat person before, but you'd like to try, take a look at some tips that will help you look fashionable and fantastic while wearing a hat like a Beverly Hills hat.

Find a Hat That Suits Your Hair

You shouldn't have to cut your hair, grow your hair, or do hours of styling just to look good with a hat on your head. What you need is a hat that looks good with your usual hair style and length. Not every type of hat works well with every type of hair, but if you choose the ones that suit your style, you won't have to work hard for it to look great.

If you have short hair, you have lots of choices. Because you don't have a lot of hair to get in the way, you can get away with a lot more than your longer haired counterparts. However, you'll want to avoid hats that cover all of your hair – pick something that you can tip back or to the side and show off your short locks.

Choosing hats starts to get more difficult if you have mid-length curly or wavy hair or long and curly or wavy hair. For mid-length hair that's curly or wavy, try out bowlers, newsboys, or cloches. Let your hair frame your face while the hat frames your hair. If you have long and wavy or curly hair, opt for big hats with wide brims – as long as you have big hair, you may as well work a big hat to go with it. Long wavy or curly hair won't be overpowered by big, floppy hats. If you're in the mood for something smaller, though, you can make it work with certain hairstyles, like a side ponytail or pigtails.

Consider Your Face Shape

Your hair isn't the only thing that you need to consider when choosing a hat. The shape of your face matters too. The same hat can look completely different on two women with the same hairstyle, all because of the shape of their faces.

If you have a round face, you need to look for a hat that elongates your face. Try hats with asymmetrical brims, high crowns, and vertical decorations, like feathers. If you have a long face, add some width by choosing hats with low crowns and wide brims. If you have a square-shaped face, soften the edges by choosing hats that are curvy and upturned. Avoid angular styles. Women with diamond-shaped faces should look for side band hats – they'll make your forehead appear wider. Oval-shaped faces can accommodate the widest range of hat styles. Just make sure that they don't sit too low on your forehead and block the view of your face.

Follow The Season

The weather can help determine not only what type of hat looks good, but also what kind of hat feels good. In the fall and winter, wear hats made from materials like wool, felt, leather, and fleece. They'll match well with your winter wardrobe, and more importantly, they'll help keep you warm. Although the myth that you lose 80% of your body heat through your head is false, you do lose heat through any part of your body that's exposed to the elements. You cover your arms and legs to stay warm, and it just makes sense to cover your head with warm materials too.

In the spring and summer, however, you'll want to opt for hats made from materials like cotton, linen, bamboo, and straw. These hats will provide ventilation, giving your head some airflow and helping you stay cool. They'll also match your lighter and airier summer wardrobe better than the heavier materials in your winter hats.

A hat doesn't have to be an accessory that you avoid. As long as you concentrate on finding hats that suit your face and hairstyles and work with your seasonal wardrobe, you'll be able to wear them with style.
